Los Orangutanes mit Sänger Ivan Tabeira (Uruguay) und Gitarrist Alex Torres (Peru) ist eine lateinamerikanische Cumbia-Band in Ungarn, die wohl in Mittel- und Osteuropa einzigartig ist. Die Gruppe debütierte im Dezember 2017 bei vollem Haus in Budapest und bewies, dass ihre Art Musik zu machen niemanden ruhig im Sessel sitzen lässt. Eine Tanzparty-Atmosphäre ist garantiert!

Cumbia ist ursprünglich ein kolumbianisches Musikgenre, das sich – nach der Eroberung Mittel- und Südamerikas – auf andere Kontinente ausbreitete und wie ein Virus gleich mehrere ungarische Musiker ansteckte. Die Gruppe wurde von der Creme de la Creme der ungarischen Musikszene – Szabolcs Arkosi, Marton Elo, Zsolt Krecsmary, Ivan Tabeira, Attila Herr, Alex Torres, David Szarvas und Akos Pasztor gegründet.

Original Cumbia wurde auf der Ute und mit Percussions gespielt. Die Legende besagt, dass ein Frachtschiff, das Akkordeons nach Argentinien transportierte, zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts sank und das Meer viele der Instrumente an Land spülte, die dann von den Einheimischen eingesammelt wurden. Sie fingen an sie zu benutzen und liebten sie so sehr, dass das Akkordeon zu einem der Hauptinstrumente Kulumbiens wurde. In den 40er Jahren folgten traditionelle Instrumente dem modischen Big-Band-Sound und dank der Musikaufnahmen begann Cumbia sich über die ganze Welt zu verbreiten. The group debuted on 16 December 2017 to a full house in Budapest, and proved that this kind of music can’t be listened to while sitting down. A dance party atmosphere is guaranteed!

Cumbia is originally a Columbian music genre, which – after conquering Central and South America – spread to other continents, and like a virus, it also infected several Hungarian musicians. The group was founded by the cream of the Hungarian music scene – Szabolcs Arkosi, Marton Elo, Zsolt Krecsmary, Ivan Tabeira, Attila Herr, Alex Torres, David Szarvas and Akos Pasztor, showing their enthusiasm about the genre.

Original cumbia was played on the ute and percussions. Legend has it that a freight ship transporting accordions to Argentina sank at the beginning of the 20th century and the water washed a lot of instruments ashore, which then were collected by the locals. They started to use them and grew fond of them so much that the accordion became one of the main instruments of the genre. In the ‘40s traditional instruments were followed by the fashionable big band sound and thanks to music recording, cumbia began to spread all over the world. Since then everyone has added something from their own culture, so now there are schlager, gangster, hipster, electro, traditional as well as dub versions.
